Nicholas Roehler, pianist and coach, has most recently served as music staff for LA Opera’s productions of The Barber of Seville, El ultimo sueño de Frida y Diego, Der Zwerg, Highway One, and Turandot. He was a member of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program at LA Opera where he served as music staff for Lucia di Lammermoor, Marriage of Figaro, Il Trovatore, Tannhäuser, Cenerentola, Aida, Oedipus Rex, St. Matthew Passion, and Joseph Bologne’s The Anonymous Lover assisting conductors James Conlon, Roberto Abbado, and Lina Gonzales-Granados. He also had the distinct pleasure of preparing The Brightness of Light with Renée Fleming and Rod Gilfrey under the baton of Gemma New.
Nicholas served as music staff for Tosca and Susannah at Opera Theatre of St. Louis in 2023. He was coach and pianist for a musical workshop of Peter Knell’s Arkhipov at Seattle Opera and for the world premiere with Jacaranda Music under the baton of Daniela Candillari, the world premiere of Jake Heggie’s If I Were You at Merola, Rigoletto with Berkshire Opera Festival, Il tabarro with Bronx Opera, Candide with University of Michigan Opera, and The Marriage of Figaro with University of Michigan and Opera in the Ozarks. He has also served as guest coach for the resident artists at the Detroit Opera. Recital highlights include San Francisco Opera’s Schwabacher Debut Recital Series, “Meet Joe Green” at the Berkshire Opera Festival, and a Liederabend curated by Susan Graham at the Colburn School.
Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal and piano performance from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. He holds a Master of Music and Specialist in Music in vocal coaching and collaborative piano from the University of Michigan under the tutelage of Martin Katz and is also an alumnus of the Merola Opera Program.
